Do certain schools like airborne, SERE, and dive school really benefit in the field in modern times? I couldn't see anyone in the middle east diving in water.

To be honest yes it is a waste, but it is a good skill to have. Those type of schools are good for skills after the military. SERE school is a great school. You learn a lot of information and skills. Airborne is used a good bit in the field.
