MARSOC In JSOC?

on Sat Nov 04, 2017 11:02 am
So I read a news article about an operation in Syria that involved Delta Force operators and MARSOC operators. Does this mean MARSOC will now have a JSOC unit?

MARSOC does not currently have a unit inside JSOC, however there are some Marines in CAG (Delta) which were in the Benghazi attack. The Marine Corps does not want to be apart of JSOC at all, but JSOC wants them, and sends them into a Delta team which at that point they are called Delta Marines.

Could you explain the delta thing and JSOC thing again? I thought delta was just the Army's tier 1 unit? Didn't know they recruit marines too

CAG recruits from the Army and the Marine Corps. Yes it its ODD (Op detachment delta or Special Forces operational detachment delta) However the Marine Corps does not have a presence in JSOC, so CAG reaches out to them due to a particular skill set that they have that would be a big help in a mission. CAG is made up of Army Special Forces, and 75th Rangers and seasoned MARSOC marines that have went through OTC or operator training course. Benghazi was the most notable thing with a Delta Marine. He was awarded the Navy Cross which is the 2nd most prestigious medal you can get. As for Marines having an actual unit in JSOC, maybe but very unlikey. I'm sure JSOC want's there to be since Marines have proven to complete missions with other JSOC units but who knows.
